For a website to be a useful marketing tool it requires to have the following important features:
1. Contain relevant information that is changed and updated frequently with new information as it becomes available
2. Create web traffic towards the specific website through SEO (search engine optimization) and social networking. Social networking is a very important tool that medical and dental offices should use to it’s full extent. Some doctors have used Facebook and Twitter for personal use or if if they didn’t personally use it, might be familiar with it. For those not familiar with it, don’t worry we will explain you how to use it.
3. Work as an effective web integrated communication tool. The websites we create allow readers, existing or prospective clients to:
- contact the office from the website through a contact form that uses very effective spam protection solutions
- call the office right from the website
- share with friends (reader’s personal contacts network) the entire website or a section of it through Facebook, Twitter and all other popular social marketing websites
- post comments and reviews on a blog section of the website; different settings allow posts either to be published to the website immediately and reviewed later or to be moderated by an administrator, in other words not be posted unless approved by an administrator. Either way, the website owner is in full control of the conversations and reviews posted on the website.
4. Allow the website owner (administrator) to make text changes in the website without any special tools or knowledge needed. Basically if you know how to edit a Word document, you will know how to edit the pages on your website.

Google adwords – is a pay per click campaign that a costumer can create within their Google account. In summary: a geographic location, list of keywords and maximum payment per click (bids) are given and Google will happily do the rest for a fee, most of the time a rather serious fee to produce good results. Depending on your bid and geographic area where the search is initiated it may produce a result displayed in the right hand side area of Google search results under “sponsored links”. There’s been a surge in the number of companies that would create and administer Google adwords campaigns on behalf of their customers, usually for high fees. Most of the time what they offer is cookie-cutter solutions that are not highly customized to a client and specific website. If you don’t have the ability to see statistics of pay per clicks to your website, fees paid and tweak the keywords to produce better results, you will be paying too much for Google Adwords or any other pay per click marketing campaign.

While Adwords is a fine marketing idea, if you have a website and already doing this, you need to ask yourself the following question: does your website have the power to retain a reader, generate a call and even more, cause readers to share the information on your website with their friends through the social media networking tools that are integrated in the website? If the answer is yes, by all means continue with your current plan if you can afford the rather hefty pay per click Google fee. To give you an example, the pay per click for keywords “cosmetic dentist” and “dental implants” were as of June 2010 in excess of $4 in the Los Angeles area. That much for only one click and visit to your website.

On the other hand if your website does not contain the most recent and updated information relevant to the search and lacks the social media networking tools, would you be able to retain that reader on the website even after paying $4 to Google for their visit to your website? I’m afraid to say, but unless you leave in the middle of nowhere and have no competition, that is very unlikely. The reason being is that readers are retained by relevant, recent information of high quality, not by a click that might get them to some irrelevant information on a website.

To give you an example, let’s take an example a search of “dental implants Los Angeles” will produce among others 2 results:
- first a Google sponsored link that goes to the general website address of a website, loaded with flash videos and generic information about that website
- second, a non-sponsored link that directs to a very specific webpage, loaded with information and pictures of the dental implant procedure, on a website that will allow the readers to call the office from that website and refer it to their friends.
We think the first one really doesn’t stand a chance. On the other hand, in the second example with a custom website build by us, you may have a chance to generate a call. Even if not, if the visitors refers the website to their friends, the chances have increased significantly, at absolutely zero cost.
